Celebrate Law Day!

On May 1, the United States recognizes Law Day. It is meant to reflect on the role of law in the country’s foundation and to recognize its importance in society. Originally the idea of Charles S. Rhyne, who served as President Eisenhower’s legal counsel, the concept caught on and Eisenhower proclaimed May 1 Law Day in 1958. Its observance was later codified by Public Law 87-20 on April 7, 1961.

In other parts of the world, the first day of May was known as May Day and commemorates the struggles of workers in their fight for better wages and working conditions.
